5-Gas Analyzer Testimonial January, 2004 (This customer was recently awarded special recognition by AirCare for his extraordinary I/M 240 and ASM repair accuracy.)

"I want to let you know that the portable five gas that I purchased from Raven Technical Services has performed even better than you promised.

The first month I used your portable 5-gas analyzer for emission diagnostic, I was able to effectively repair every failed AirCare vehicle that came to my repair centre.

Before I started using your equipment, my AirCare REI was .64. Now after just one month of using your company's portable 5 gas for ASM and I/M 240 repairs, I increased my REI to .92. I am very happy.

Your PDA5GBD exhaust analyzer workstation is a very, very good piece of equipment.

Thank you very much for all of your help."

PDA Lab Scope Testimonial - January 2004

From IATN, in response to a new PDA owner's inquiry about ease of use and effectiveness of PDA lab scopes)

"The techs who use it (PDA) will be in for a treat. Its probably the EASIEST lab scope I've ever owned to dive in and use. Adjustments to voltage and time base are positively simple, and the screen is sharp and easy to see in most lighting. Call your local Omitec rep and arrange an afternoon of training. Make sure he hooks up to several vehicles and different systems. My one suggestion above all others: USE THE TWIST TIES! ALL the leads are nicely twist-tied in the case when you get the unit. Take the time to keep them that way when you store it after use! The biggest nightmare I've found is untangling leads if you don't spend five minutes at the end of the day to wrap them, you'll spend 10 to 15 minutes the next time you want to use it!

As for the tool ... it's fast and easy to learn. The controls and patterns and terms and its menus are pretty much like ANY old ignition scope (ALLEN, SUN, etc.) and it works very well.

You should have no problem fixing cars. It does lack some power that scope trainers and engineers like (breaking down patterns to under 25uS) ... but for fixing cars, I've yet to find a pattern I needed that required that I change scopes to get. It works nicely."

PDA Lab Scope Testimonial - January, 2004

From IATN, in response to a new PDA owner's inquiry about ease of use and effectiveness of PDA lab scopes)

> "I've owned the PDA complete with 4 channel scope and full ignition system for almost five years and love the machine ... I recently traded up the scope, as Omitec have a special and are giving away a free OBD scanner as well. ... I also brought the new COP fitting and they work great ... The new machine has a much better processor and better backlight..."

PDA Lab Scope Testimonial - January, 2004

From IATN, in response to a new PDA owner's inquiry about ease of use and effectiveness of PDA lab scopes

"Once you learn the use of Omitec's PDA, you will not use any other manufacturer's product. Have a district trainer come in and demo the features anduse of the PDA. Omitec also offers a new Euro scanner. In my opinion, Omitec's products a great."

PDA Lab Scope Testimonial - January, 2004

From IATN, in response to a new PDA owner's inquiry about ease of use and effectiveness of PDA lab scopes)

"The new Omitec 2100 is an incredible unit with built-in help screens and lots of typical patterns. The new 2100 Series has one thing that is not well explained and it makes you think that you have a bad battery. The power button on the front only powers down the screen, the processor stays on (draining the battery). To power down, lift the big flap on the right side next to the printer/communication port and slide the switch up to prevent premature battery drain (obviously, slide it back down to turn the unit back on). I have seen many of our customers convinced that they have a bad battery ... (but they) have no problems following this procedure. Try interro.com. They have some great downloadable tech tips for help and their toll-free tech-line 1800-434-6744. Typically we have enjoyed great support ..."

Featured tech tips from customers

This is the first in a series of short how-to articles and tech tips from owner’s of Omitec products on news ways to use Omitec diagnostic tools.

Meet Albin Moore, owner of Big Wrench Repair in Dryden, Washington. Albin runs a family-operated repair shop in a small agricultural community in north central Washington. Dryden is in the heart of Washington’s famous apple and pear country. Sometimes a little bit of ingenuity and good ol’ common sense has to be used to get the job done because of the distance to parts suppliers.

Albin is known to fix anything from an orchard tractor sprayer to a Mercedes Benz. He values the dollar, his and his customers’, and believes in accurate diagnostic troubleshooting to get to the cause of the problem, not just the symptom. He’s been using his Omitec PDA for several years and has learned to use it to the fullest along with his many scan tools. He also recently acquired a five-gas emissions analyzer. Even though his shop isn’t in an I/M emissions program area, he still recognizes the value of exhaust gas analysis.

A customer recently brought in a car with a drivability problem that Albin suspected was the result of a fuel pump failure. Out came his PDA100A lab scope to check the current on the fuel pump circuit using the milliamp probe. Albin was seeing the erratic signal typical a bad fuel pump, but he also saw something odd. He checked his setup and found an internal break in his milliamp probe’s signal wire to the PDA. This would normally necessitate a new milliamp probe. Albin thought, “ Hey, what if I took one of my backup PDA lab scope leads and got it to work with the milliamp probe.”

Here’s what he did. He disassembled the milliamp probe and unsoldered the old signal wire from the milliamp probes circuitry. Then he slightly enlarged the through hole into the probe for the signal wire to accommodate the larger diameter of the lab scope’s “shielded“ lead. Next, he cut off the banana plug end of the old lab scope lead, leaving the BNC connector “as is” on the other end. He soldered the inner signal wire to the output connection point in the milliamp probe and soldered the shielding to the circuit board’s ground. He reassembled the milliamp probe and was off to test the customer’s car.

Not only did it work, it worked much better than ever, since now the lead was shielded and didn’t pick up any of the unwanted circuit “noise” common when testing many of today’s vehicles. He found that he could easily increase the gain of the scope without seeing the signal noise that used to be there! Now he could really take a very close look at the ignition primary current ramps and the injector driver current ramps, without the noise obscuring the signal detail he needed to evaluate.
