Problems with ABS MIL

It has been reported that problems have occurred with the ABS MIL illuminating after MOT tests or wheel speed sensor tests have been completed on a vehicle. This is usually due to the wheels being spun freely whilst the vehicle is raised from the ground and with the vehicle ignition switched on.

This procedure will in some instances cause the ABS ECM to believe that there is an error and it will illuminate the MIL. With some ABS ECMs this 'fault' can only be cleared using a suitable Scantool or the vehicle will have to be taken to a main dealer.

REMEDY

Before carrying out wheel checks during an MOT or wheel speed sensor tests, ensure that the ignition is switched OFF.
