Principal Design Engineer
As part of a busy engineering team you will be responsible for providing the detail of the market led requirements for emissions platforms.
37.5 hour flexible working week plus generous company pension, Life Assurance & 25 days holidays plus Bank Hols. Salary is negotiable depending on experience.
Areas of responsibility are:
- Liaise with the marketing department to agree target markets.
- Investigate the market and homologation requirements for the target market.
- Complete feasibility study information for the target markets, liaise with Engineering manager and software manager to define costs and scope (F No).
- For approved projects produce detailed requirement specification for hardware and software to achieve the market requirement (as defined by marketing) and Homologation.
- Produce a test plan to ensure the product meets the requirement.
- Manage all aspects of the Homologation process including definition of costs and sign off to achieve homologated product.
Dimensions and limits of Authority
Reporting to the Engineering Manager you will define the detailed requirements for gas and smoke products in all markets. To obtain Homologation of the products in the desired markets.
Skills Required
You will need a combination of the following skills:
- A proven track record in electronics design of software controlled measurement instruments and related activities:
- Good presentation and documentation skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical standards and create detailed specifications for the design team.
- Proactive and capable of meeting deadlines and achieving timely project delivery.
- Knowledge of automotive emission analyser (both Gas and smoke) products and technologies.
- Proficiency in use of MS Office and some knowledge of MS Project.
Desirable Skills
You should have some of the following skills:
- Knowledge of the Measurement Instrumentation Directive
- Working within an ISO9000 accredited environment
- At least some knowledge of software development processes and issues
- Structured design processes and documentation
Qualifications
Qualified to degree level or equivalent experience in a engineering design related subject.

Negotiable on experience.
Others
Maintain Valid Driving License and Passport – Travel in the UK and overseas will be required from time to time.
